Divine Philosopher

Beta Testing · PlaytestThis archetype is ready for playtesting but not yet final — mechanics may change based on table feedback. Play with DM approval; feedback welcome.

Most priests answer the call of the divine. The Divine Philosopher answers — and then asks why. A student of sacred doctrine as much as a servant of it, she blends the scholar's quill with the cleric's holy symbol and the bard's silver tongue. On the battlefield she heals, commands, and inspires. In the halls of faith she preaches, debates, and converts. She is the living argument for her god's supremacy — and she can prove it.

Class Features

The following are class features of the Divine Philosopher.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

The Divine Philosopher gains no additional weapon or armor proficiencies.

Spell Power (Ex)

At 1st level, the Divine Philosopher chooses 2 classes she possesses levels in. Her caster level for all spells from those classes increases by 1. This bonus increases to +2 at 4th level, +3 at 7th level, and +4 at 10th level. Once chosen, these classes cannot be changed.

Bardic Knowledge (Ex)

This ability is identical to the bard class feature of the same name. Levels in this prestige class stack with levels in any other class that grants a similar ability.

Ministry (Ex)

When making a Diplomacy check with a divine caster who does not worship your god, you gain a bonus equal to your Divine Philosopher level. When using Oratory Bardic Performance, your levels in this class stack with your bard levels for determining rounds per day and performance effects.

Lore of the Faith (Ex)

Starting at 2nd level, your levels in Divine Philosopher stack when determining the power of the following divine class abilities. You gain no new ability uses, forms, judgment types, or revelations beyond what is listed — only the level-scaling benefits indicated.

• Channel Energy — number of d6s per channel (e.g., 3rd = 2d6, 5th = 3d6, 7th = 4d6).

• Wild Shape — uses per day only. You gain no new forms or tiers (e.g., Beast Shape II, Elemental Body I, Plant Shape I).

• Judgment — uses per day and level-dependent effects only. You gain no new judgment types.

• Revelation — level-dependent effects of existing revelations only. You gain no new revelations.

• Lay on Hands — level-dependent benefits only.

Augmented Casting (Su)

Starting at 3rd level, you can sacrifice a spell or spell slot from one class to apply a metamagic feat you know to a spell cast using a different class. For example, you could sacrifice an oracle spell slot to empower a cleric spell. The sacrificed slot is lost in addition to the spell being cast. The level of the spell being augmented cannot exceed half your Divine Philosopher class level (1st-level spells at 3rd level, up to 5th-level spells at 10th level). The slot sacrificed must be of a spell level equal to or higher than the spell level adjustment of the metamagic feat. You cannot use this ability on a spell already affected by a metamagic feat. You can use Augmented Casting a number of times per day equal to 3 + half your class level.

Sermon (Ex)

At 4th level, you may add one Bardic Performance to your list of known performances. Add your bard levels and Divine Philosopher levels together to determine whether you meet the prerequisites for the chosen performance. You may select another performance at 6th level and again at 8th level.

Bonus Feat

At 5th level and again at 9th level, you may select a bonus metamagic feat for which you meet the prerequisites.

Benediction of Champions

At 10th level, the Divine Philosopher can inspire tremendous heroism in herself and a number of allies within 60 feet equal to her Charisma bonus. At the beginning of the performance she may sacrifice 2 rounds of Bardic Performance for each additional creature she wishes to affect beyond that number. All targets must be able to see and hear the Divine Philosopher.

Inspired creatures gain a +2 morale bonus on saving throws and a +2 dodge bonus to AC. The effect lasts for as long as the targets can hear the performance. Benediction of Champions is a mind-affecting ability that relies on audible components.

In addition, the Divine Philosopher's words touch her allies' very souls. During the Benediction of Champions, she can cast healing spells with a range of touch on any inspired ally regardless of distance, and while using Channel Energy all inspired allies are treated as if they were in an adjacent space.
